I had a number of conversations today, in some, the word “vision” has come out. In one particular conversation we were talking about a project plan and in the course of the exchange I have accepted a role and was given the go-signal to start implementing. At this point I uttered, “Before we get the ball rolling, may I ask, what is your vision for this project?”
Another conversation ensued on this same day that caused “vision” to be raised again. Having traversed this day with these encounters, I have come to realize the importance of vision in everything we do no matter how minute.
As the Bible says, “People perish for lack of vision.” If there is no goal our actions are aimless. We wander in circles having no trajectory, aimlessly moving about with no purpose aiming at nothing. The saddest part is working hard for no particular vision. Many of our actions are wasted because they lack cohesiveness, having a mix of fragmented and inconsistent strokes. Leading to nothing meaningful, leading to uncertainty, we arrive to our future time not having accomplished much because we have not set up ourselves to achieve. For what is there to achieve if there is no vision afterall? Come to think of it.
What gives meaning to our daily comings and goings is vision. If we are so pinned on our vision, every action becomes a step closer to our desired outcomes. This is the refreshing part, that after the sweat and tears of work, harvest time will be a rewarding event because the planting phase was done right. It could only be right if we start with a vision so that each step leads to another and the next, all interconnected with only one end in mind: to make the vision a reality. When we see this happen, our existence leaves a mark for others to emulate. If goodness for all is the core of the vision, the mark be worth a thousand lives.
May our lives be driven by vision.
To tomorrow,
Joji
