“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
– Isaiah 43:19 ESV
Reflection
A new year opens before us. God does not wait for us to feel ready before He begins something new. He simply declares that He is already at work. Even now, beneath uncertainty and quiet prayers, beneath what feels unfinished, something is brewing.
There may be times we find ourselves in the wilderness, but it is not a sign of abandonment. It is often the very place where God reveals His nearness. Where we see obstacles, He sees pathways. Where we feel dryness, He promises living water. The “new thing” may not arrive with noise or clarity, but with small signs of hope, gentle shifts, renewed strength, a softened heart.
This verse asks us to perceive, to slow down enough to notice His grace unfolding. The start of this year does not require perfection or haste. It invites trust. God goes ahead of us, preparing what we cannot yet see.
As this year begins, we step forward not with pressure, but with faith, believing that God’s work is already in motion.
Prayer
Lord, as this new year begins, open my eyes to see what You are doing. Help me trust You in the wilderness seasons and believe in Your promises even before they fully unfold. Lead me. Strengthen my faith, and let Your streams of grace flow through every part of my life. I place this year in Your hands. Amen.
