Riding On Your Wave

Riding On Your Wave

By Joji Upano

For quite a while now,

Been riding on your wave,

For quite a while now,

Been synching with your sway.

Here, this wave rises,

Then, this wave collapses,

In its rise and fall,

It gains power and might.

Dripping with dislike,

This wave so strangely normed,

Turn my back, I do,

Leave this peculiar ride.

Mystified, heaving,

Heat surging like furnace,

Emboldened by fire,

Pulls back to ride again.

This lie, this deceit,

Are you testing my strength?

Are you provoking?

But your force is weak.

Turning around to

Convey my last farewell,

Wave orbits quickly,

Like whirlwind, capsulized.

And I voice out, “No”!

The wave drowns, I can’t breathe.

Moving to swallow me,

I find the way out.

I won’t ride your wave

Anymore. I say stop

Choosing this journey.

My spirit in delight.

To breathe easier,

My desire, the promise,

Possibility,

Great anticipation.

What sweet surrender,

Is to live in freedom,

From wounding wave rides,

From bruising choices.

And, final exit

Is found, I run to it.

Open space, I stand,

I embrace the new light.

And, new beginnings

Dawn as petals abloom,

Promising a dance

With the turning windmills.

Tomorrow’s fresh streams

Will flow like dreams and beams,

Victorious I trust.

I whirl in gratitude.

As I soar toward

The highest mountain peak,

The wave disappears.

Totally, I’ve done it.
