When we arrived into existence on this planet we were not simply empty shells. We were born a bundle filled to the brim with all the good things inside of us, everything we need to live and thrive have been within us. We were full and still are. Name it, we came with talents, joy, courage and all the good stuff we need for ourselves.
But wait, come to think of it, we were born to not just stand there and watch things happen. Neither were we planted here to live for ourselves. We are designed to be like a fountain.
Like a fountain that never ends its giving and receiving, so are we to live. As we were given so much, we were meant to give back what we have been given; flow out what flows in. As we receive we give. That, to me, is how our human life was meant to be.
What is the point of being here then if all there is to life is to just satisfy our own personal needs? It seems contrary to what we see in ourselves. It makes me ask the question- why am I given so much talent and unlimited potential and possibilities if all there is to life is to make myself fat with satisfaction when my needs are met? If it is just for my own benefit, why all the abundance around for me to steward?
Time and again we are reminded to be good stewards. I believe this is so because we have a mission to fulfill- to be a source of support with the resources we have, for those less fortunate among us.
With grace and enlightenment, let us see ourselves as fountains that should never run dry by keeping to the cycle of flowing without ceasing.
